HOW TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION BY GENERAL KNOWLEDGE

Along side Intelligence Tests (Also See How to ImproveIntelligence) Sound General Knowledge is the basis for any Interview or any Interaction. You can impress your GTO or the Deputy during the Interview with Great General Knowledge. Facts and Figures presented during the Group discussions not only makes your argument Powerful but also informs the GTO and Psych that this Candidates means business. Let me Give You an Example. Suppose the Topic of Group discussion is " army should take over Railways for its betterment"
Candidate 1 : Army should not take over railways because army is always interfering with civil institutions and that hampers the performance of Army itself. Army's main task is to defend the country and they should concentrate on its primary task.
Candidate number 2 : Gentlemen, I agree with what Chest Number 1 has to say. i will just add that Army has always come to the rescue of civil Institutions when ever they needed. Be it the Earth Quake of 8 oct or the disastrous flood of 2010 where Pakistan suffered almost 30 Billion $ damage. Today railways 32 engines have seized and its nose diving and again people have started looking towards Army to Salvage it. Army is already engaged in war against terrorism plus unless we allow the institutions to mend their own ways they can't be expected to rise. Army can't always become the crutches of the civil institutions.

NOW...Both candidates are saying the same thing but candidate number 2 position is far factual and impressive than candidate number one and that is possible because he has more "KNOWLEDGE" abt Pakistan and whats going on. He supported his stance with Examples which makes him more LIKEABLE...!!!

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL INTERVIEW

A great no of ISSB candidates are searching for ISSB interview preparation. Well before I should start, remember you are what you are and we all are just perfect the way we really are. This may look obscured at first and maybe weird too but reality is that everyone has its own personality, his own charm and that is what makes a person different to another person. Hence you should pay attention to what other say, how good some other candidates experience was, and what are the pros and  cons which tips will do the job well done but act what like what you are yourself.
Below are some tips the candidate should take advantage of and get a lead on his other group members:

  •    Wear Some thing Good. Avoid Loud colors Like Red or Pink Shirts. Usually a Black Pant, Blue Shirt and black Tie Should Do. Don’t hesitate to Wear a Suit If Its Winters.
  •    You should enter the interview room with faith in Allah and self-confidence.
  •    You  must answer questions in an easy and natural way.
  •    Answer  must be relevant to the asked questions.
  •    Be very smart in listening and answering the question put to You
  •    Be sensible as well as sensitive.
  •    Your approach to the asked questions should be positive and not negative.
  •     Don’t try to make the conservation lively.
  •    You must use simple and right words while answering questions
  •    Avoid using the words “Sorry sir, I missed, if you can please repeat”, “I beg your pardon”.

  •     Be courageous enough to admit Your mistakes if the interviewing officer points out. The spirit of  honest owning enhance ones prestige in front of the interviewing officer.

ITS ALL ABOUT COMMON SENSE IN ISSB

Common Sense is not that common......! Here are some more tips !!

1. Be Simple and Original. Don't try to impress selectors with your English or difficult words....try to impress with your ideas and ingenuity of imagination. Explain in simple words. "Expression" is considered to be a gifted quality at ISSB, everyone passes it unless he/she stammers ! !!!. So no need to speak flowery English, rather dont speak english unless you are told to do so. Simple rule if asked in english; answer in english otherwise speak urdu at ISSB.
2. Avoid Long Sentences. First you dont have time to write long sentences secondly you will make mistakes in making long sentences. Remember you are allowed to write even a word instead of sentence, but that should convey some meaning in relation to the word. e.g.
2.1 "Date" ---14 Aug 1947
2.2 "leader"----Quaid-e-Azam.
3. Be Optimistic. Optimistic means always try to have solution dont go for dead ends. Simple rule is always consider it a day time when ever situation does not clearly mentions which part of the day it is. ....e.g.
3.1 woh sunsan sarak per ja raha tha kay achanak.................
here time is not mentioned so take it as a day time not night.
4. Words to be avoided. There are few words which you should avoid in both english and urdu. e.g.
4.1 Accident........Hadsa
4.2 Murder......Qatel
4.3 Blood......Khoon
4.4 Dark......Andhera
4.5 Hopeless......Mayyusi
4.6 Pen......Qalam
4.7 Ink......roshnai
4.8 All type of weapons.....like pistol, rifle, KK, dagger etc.
4.9 Fear...khuaf
4.10Injury
4.11 Se

PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTS-PSYCHS OPINION

Ladies and Gentlemen, Now lets see what is Psychological tests? and why they are taken at ISSB? , And how to attempt these? Till the time you don’t understand this you won’t be able to attempt them correctly. Following tests will be part of your Psychological test at ISSB
1. Word Association Test. Single word will be displayed for 10 seconds to make a sentence and write it.
2. Sentence Completion Test. Half sentences will be written and you have to complete them.
3. Picture Story. A picture will be shown and you have to write a story related to the picture.
4. Unforgettable Moment. You will be required to write an unforgettable moment of your life in a paragraph.
5. Good and Bad qualities of yourself.
6. Favourite Personality.
Why they are taken?
Psychological test are taken to find out about your sub-conscious, your genuine motives to join army, your actual likes and dislikes, your inferiorities and inhibitions. As per the study human beings complete their sub-conscious growth by the age of 5years……So by the age you are appearing at ISSB you cant do much about that……J , but believe me in Pakistan’s society every one of us is having psychological problems due to the situation all around us. I will not go into the reasons of that but will tell you how to attempt in a healthier way……..
How to Attempt?
There are few general principles which are applicable to all tests. You should keep them in mind while attempting the psychological tests. However if you have any specific question to any test, we would be pleased to answer……..
1. Completeness.   Your tests should be complete; means don’t leave ANY question/word/sentence blank. If you leave any thing blank means;
1.1 You are hiding from ISSB
              1.2 You lack determination.
1.3 You are slow in thought process.
2. Avoid Cuttings and re-writings. You must avoid cuttings and re-writings. It will give a good look of your paper and also clarity of your ideas. If you do cuttings or re-writings, it will mean;
            2.1 You are confused.
2.2. You can’t express you ideas clearly in first attempt.
2.3 You are not firm in decision making.
            2.4 You lack self assurance.
3.  New Ideas. Try not to repeat one idea too many times. Like don’t try to make too many sentences relating to Army Officer, you can talk about teacher, engineer, doctor, social worker etc BUT avoid talking about politicians, and criminals.

4. Positive Thinking.  Almost every one will tell try to be a positive thinker but no one tells HOW? Here is an example which will make it clear what’s the difference between Positive and Negative thinking:-
4.1 Negative. I don’t tell lie.
4.2 Positive. I speak truth.
Now if you see both sentences convey same meaning but there is a difference of thinking behind both. In first sentence the candidate thought about “LIE” a negative aspect and then tries to cover that with a “DON’T”. So even this one sentence will represent:
4.1.1 You are hiding facts about yourself.
4.1.2 You are basically a “Liar”
4.1.3 You see things firstly from negative angle.
And opposite to all these are in 4.2 means you are straight forward and clear headed person!!!!!!!!!

INTELLIGENCE TESTS AND IMPROVING INTELLIGENCE

Intelligence test will be the first test which a candidate will under go at ISSB. It will be Your first impression  to the selectors who will guage you for your potentials. So in true sense it is First impression is the last Impression. Intelligence is mind’s cognitive ability to solve the posed problem in a given time. In simple terms how logically and quickly your mind solves a problem. I, being a psychologist do not agree with the claims that intelligence is not improvable. My experience tells me that a candidate can improve his/her marks in the test with practice but his standard IQ may not improve. So Do practice as much as You can to Improve your marks. I will not limit your knowledge to try only the tests which will be posted shortly. We are also recommending Sites To You in the End, Do visit Those and Practice.Remember “Practice makes a man perfect” !!!! One more thing  Intelligence marks are part of the final merit at respective services headquarters So gear Up Guys...!!!
You will be attempting these type of tests in ISSB :-
Verbal Intelligence Tests : 95 Questions
Non Verbal Intelligence test : 85 Questions
Mechanical Intelligence test: 50 Questions
Here are few Insider tips for attempting the tests:
  • 1. Be relaxed , cool and calm.
  • 2. Read the question carefully
  • 3. Apply simple logics, like the gap of number is due to:
    • a. Even/odd numbers (2,4,6,8____ or 3,5,7,9,_____ )
    • b. Double of first figure ( 2,4,8,16,______)
    • c. Double plus one or minus one of first figure (2,5,11,23____ or 3,5,9,17___)
    • d. Square of first figure with different subtraction or additions.
  • 4. Draw directions on your desk North,West, East ,South
  • 5. Practically examine with the functioning of fulcrum, gears and pullies. For example if you apply weight   on one end of fulcrum the other will move up, if one gear is moving clockwise the attached one will move anticlockwise or if you pull one end down the end will move up around the pully.

These simple tricks will sharpen your imagination and will definitely facilitate your quick responses during the test. We will also post Intelligence tests in our future posts so stay tuned..!!!
Here are some Sites That You can use to Practice :- (Rt Click and open in new tab)

If you have any question regarding the intelligence test please paste a comment we would be more than happy to answer your queries. Do share this article on FB for the good of others. Remember help others and ALLAH will help You.
Best of luck………..

HOW TO START PREPARING FOR ISSB

Ladies and gentlemen...this is a big and the basic question about ISSB preparation !
The simple answer is from right frame of mind. Generally the people will say one should not prepare for ISSB only freshen up your general knowledge and exercise for physical fitness. Here you go wrong........! general knowledge is just one small aspect of complete test and physical fitness has nothing to do with the test of GTO.........but its a MUST to keep you in the right frame of mind that you are preparing for forces.
Like all other tests you so far appeared in life, you prepared for them, just imagine how much you studied for FA/FSc exams and now you are going for Gazetted Commissioned Officer who from the very first day draws a salary of 22000, and you think that you don't need any preparation ???????
Now coming to the preparation.....
First thing to know in what all tests you will be tested ?
1. Psychological Test
Intelligence Aptitude Test
Mechanical Aptitude Test

Sentence Completion Test
Story Writing
Self Personality Description
2. GTO Test

3. Do Sit Ups starting with 25 For first day and then Increasing progressively
